About The New York Yiddish Language Meetup Group

We started on Sunday Oct 22 and had a freylicheh simcha. Ditto on Dec 3 and Jan 14 - mir hot alemen farbrakhen redden zeyer gut Yiddish und lernen nayer zachn.

We enjoy sharing conversations about contemporary Yiddish language and life, here and abroad, activities and events, entertainments, whatever. We enjoy both the rambling and particuar conversations.

We're open to any Yiddish-related ideas. Members can always suggest ideas about venues, subjects, events, whatever has to do with Yiddish, at the Message Board http://yiddish.meetup... or at meetups. Our main thing is to simply enjoy the mama loshen, the mother tongue.

We're always looking for sites that would add to our Meet-up's atmosphere, like dining venues that everyone can afford and eat at, and Yiddish-related institutions with meeting rooms that don't charge a ton of money. Or exhibits of interest instead of a regular meeting.

Even our schedule is flexible, what with holidays and the mishegass of normal life.

It's part of our roots for most of us, our matrix, and with the changing social environment, sharing things in Yiddish is an experience that seems further and further away. These meetings counter that. There are other reasons for joining and talk about them on the site here or at meetings - our members have pretty diverse histories.

If this sounds like what you're looking for, we'd be delighted - tsufridden - when you Meetup with us.
